Cupping Therapy for Muscle Tension and Circulation

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a time-honored healing technique used to relieve muscle tightness, improve circulation, and promote overall wellness. At Boston Massage and Bodywork, we incorporate cupping into therapeutic massage sessions to target chronic pain, inflammation, and areas of tension that are difficult to release through massage alone.

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping involves the use of silicone, plastic, or glass cups placed on the skin to create gentle suction. This suction draws blood to the surface, loosens connective tissue, and encourages lymphatic drainage. The result is a therapeutic effect that can enhance healing, facilitate circulation, and decrease pain.

Cupping (especially static) may leave temporary marks on the skin. This is a sign of blood flow to the area and the marks typically fade within a few days. Sliding cupping usually does not leave marks, but there may be local redness for a few hours.

Benefits of Cupping Therapy

Cupping may be beneficial for clients seeking relief from:

  • Muscle tightness and knots
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Sports-related muscle fatigue
  • Anxiety or physical tension
  • Coming down with or recovering from a cold

Our licensed therapists are trained to integrate cupping with massage for a deeply therapeutic experience that is safe and effective.
